Rapex- Keeping European Consumers Safe
With the exception of food and medical appliances and products, RAPEX is an EU web-based application for unsafe consumer products. It is a rapid exchange of information between Member States and the Commission on measures taken to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of products posing a serious risk to the health and safety of consumers. They also exchange information with Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. The measures are ordered by national authorities, or taken voluntarily by the producers.
Every week The Commission publishes an overview of the dangerous products, which can be found on their website. The overviews contain information about the product, the danger and what measures were taken by the reporting country.
In Cyprus, the authority responsible for Rapex is the Competition and Consumer Protection Service of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Tourism. They are also the National Contact Point of Cyprus for the European Commission. Below you can find the links that will give you additional information and keep you updated on the products that should be kept out of the house, especially if you have children.
